I created this site to serve as a resource for wargamers. Buying miniatures sight unseen can be, to say the least, disturbing. I have purchased several of my armies without seeing the quality of the castings first. I have been pleased by the results often, but on several occasions, I have been bitterly disappointed. I own 15mm figs by 5 different manufacturers - Donnington Miniatures, Essex Miniatures, Museum Miniatures, Tabletop Miniatures and Lancashire Games.
A couple of comments on each manufacturer......
Donnington have a huge range of ancients and have always been my favorite manufacturer! There figs are slightly on the chunky side and are very resistant to damage. My cat has knocked them over, and my wife has been abusive to them on several occasions (she once purposely kicked my Skythian army on the floor with no breakage or damage whatsoever. I bent back the spears! Whew! see my revenge!).
Essex are beautifully sculpted and sturdy as well. They will mix with Donnington in small numbers. The detail is sharper than Donnington and the infantry tend to be smaller.
For Tabletop comments see remarks on bottom of New Kingdom Egyptian page.
Lancashire games are my least favorite. Breakage is common on horse ankles and on some infantry. The sculpting on the Parthians and Germans I own is quite crude. They are inexpensive however. The cheapest 15's on the market. Remember you get what you pay for! Cavalry are one piece castings.
Museum are really on the small side. Donnington foot next to museum foot can sometimes look like giants. They use a harder metal with pewter and all cavalry are one piece castings. I am not a big fan of their infantry but their cavalry tends to be quite dynamic!
My interests are solely ancients and all my scans generally cover armies from 220bc through 500 ad. Some of the figs are painted and others in their raw unrefined state. Donnington, in particular does not seem to have many pics of their figs anywhere on the web. I am not including figure codes (this task is much to vast) , I just want to give the wargamer a chance to see some depictions of figs from the more obscure manufacturers. I have included a title in the pic describing what the troop type is. I have noticed some spelling mistakes in here (I even misspelled infantry...12 hours of scanning will do strange things to you) ..I will fix them sometime! I hope the resolution of the scans is ok..I didn't use the best quality. If someone wants a better resolution of a scan or fig..email me and I will send it to you!
Hope this is a help to someone!.....Happy Wargaming!
